DECKER ANNOUNCES SENATE CANDIDACY

She shares our values and will restore trust and respect to this position in the Mass. State Senate

Marjorie Decker formally announced her candidacy for State Senate before a horde of supporters - men, women, seniors and children.

"Our Senate District belongs to the families and the citizens of Allston, Brighton, Cambridge, Charlestown, Chelsea, Everett, Revere, Saugus and Somerville", stated Decker.  "Though we may live in different communities, we share the same stories, the same hopes, the same frustrations and the same worries - particularly worries about jobs, taxes, our economy, and our future."

Decker grew up in a working-class family in public housing in the City of Cambridge. She graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin High after which she worked her way through UMass-Amherst - graduating with honors.

"I didn't come from a political family or have influential backers, but what I did take from my childhood was the value of hard work - and throughout my life, everything I have achieved is the result of that same hard work," continued Decker.   In 1998, Marjorie was elected to serve on the Cambridge City Council.  During her time on the council, she built a reputation for having remained true to her roots while displaying the hard work and willingness to listen so critical to being an advocate for all.

As a wife and mother, Marjorie shares every family's concern about rising costs of everything from heat to groceries and about job security in this shaky economy. Like most parents, she worries about how to find safe and affordable childcare and schools that are up to the highest standards our children need.

As the daughter of a disabled veteran and aging parents, Marjorie knows first-hand how much our seniors are counting on us to help them remain secure and healthy. And she understands how important it is that veterans receive not only our respect and gratitude, but also the resources they need.

As a taxpayer, Marjorie is most concerned about government spending and rising taxes. "The state government and our elected officials are not listening to the citizens - the citizens who sent them there," laments Decker.  "I am as angry and frustrated as every other citizen in this senate district about the misplaced focus on Beacon Hill. When it comes to creating jobs, I want action not excuses. When it comes to helping cities and towns hold the line on property taxes, I want action not excuses. When it comes to real education reform that offers every student the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, I want action, not speeches and pamphlets."

"For Massachusetts to do better, for its families and citizens to do better, the State Senate must do better to restore our trust and our faith in those who represent us and lead our state government. We need elected officials who will work as hard and be as determined and as accountable as the good and decent people they represent. We need leaders who will not just listen - although that would be a good beginning, but who will be transparent and have the political courage to act swiftly, openly, and decisively to solve the problems before us.

"As a public advocate, I have tried my best to help my community. I have fought for affordable housing, for better schools and after school programs. I have been an outspoken advocate for seniors and veterans. And I have worked with business, labor and city officials to create and keep jobs in our community,: stated Marjorie.  "But, local residents can't do it alone, much more needs to be done at the state level.  I believe I can do more to make a difference for all of us in the State Senate. I'm ready. I'm determined. And between now and election day, I intend to walk in every Allston, Brighton, Cambridge, Charlestown, Chelsea, Everett, Revere, Saugus and Somerville neighborhood that I possibly can to let people in our district know that I will listen to and advocate for you," said Decker.

In this election, do more than just send a message to Beacon Hill, send a determined woman who you can count on to deliver. Marjorie Decker won't let you down.
